Villa Bellini and its garden paths

Villa Bellini is a historic garden where you can walk between two hills and follow paths past its distinctive features. Its avenues include busts of notable Italians and Catanese figures, while a floral botanical clock and a wrought-iron music pavilion add points of interest along the way.

The garden began as former maze grounds. The municipality acquired the area in 1854, and work to adapt it as a public garden began in 1864. Development took place in two phases, from 1863 to 1865 and from 1877 to 1882; Villa Bellini was inaugurated on 6 January 1883.

The main entrance is on Via Etnea. You can pair a garden visit with a walk through the city centre; for a broader route, see this guide to one day in Catania.

Catania has several other listed parks, with different access arrangements. The municipal listings distinguish between fenced parks with schedules and parks listed as open.

Boschetto Plaia, Parco degli Ulivi and Parco Fenoglietti are listed as fenced parks; their opening schedules are given under service no. 5. Parco Amico on Via Concetto Marchesi, Parco Curia on Via Curia, Parco degli Aromi on Viale da Verrazzano and Parco Falcone on Via R. Sanzio are listed as open parks.

If you are interested in plant collections rather than a public park, the Orto Botanico is at Via Antonio Longo 19. Its listed visiting hours are 09:00–13:30 Monday to Friday and 09:00–13:00 Saturday. Admission is €4, with group and reduced admission listed at €3.
